HONOUR DILIGENCE SERVICE

St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) started on April 10, 1961, as a co-educational secondary level institution with a population of 120 student and an academic staff of eight. Mr. E.G. Roper acted as principal and was succeeded by Mr. John Austin Holmes in September 1961. At the start there was only one block of classrooms, an Engineering and Building Workshop, and unequipped Home Economics and Science Laboratories.
The honour of seeing the school through its formative years goes to Mr. J.A. Holmes and his team of pioneer teachers. He was responsible for the physical layout of the buildings and transforming a dust bowl into a garden. He was also responsible for the organizational structure of the school.
When Mr. Holmes left in 1967 the schools “teething pains were over and the new acting principal Mr. R. Copeland found an excellent foundation on which to build. He did not remain long and in September 1969, he was succeeded by Mr. S. W. Isaac-Henry
St. Andrew Industrial Trade Training Centre was built in 1961, with funds provided by the UAID as part of a co-operative programe in vocational education and training. At that time it was the largest and most equipped vocational training centre in Jamaica and the English –speaking Caribbean. The institution started operations in January 1962 with Mr. Steadley Webster as the first principal. The Trade Training Centre was geared to train young men, for a period of one year in industrial skills such as Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing& Pipefitting, Welding & Fabrication , Electrical Installation, Auto-Mechanics and Machine Shop. When Mr. Webster left in 1967, he was succeeded by Mr. Steve Dyer, a pioneer teacher from the High School, as the second principal of the Trade Training Centre.
